Seriously, I love it. It was only the first day yesterday but it was great. First let me just say that there are no exams or finals in grad school. I repeat, no exams or finals in grad school! Second, it's great to be in class with people who actually want to be there. Gone are the days of having to deal with people who are only there because their parents are making them or because they rather not get a job just yet.
Also, I like the people in my classes. The way my program works, I'll be with the same people for the next year. I was not looking forward to that but I must say, they're a great bunch of people. Everyone has been so friendly. The professors and the staff are so awesome. They are very relaxed and dare I say approachable. It's all a bit strange. I'm not used to that at all. Nobody cares about you on the undergrad level but so far, all the staff has been nothing but helpful and nurturing. It's so weird.
The only downside is that I've spent way too much on books already and I still need to buy books for 2 more classes. I don't even want to look at my statement. Also, the lines at school are ridiculously long. I was waiting ages for my ID. Other than that, no complaints. We shall see how I feel by the end of the semester lol.
I went to see My Bloody Valentine yesterday in 3D. I think more stuff could've been in 3D but overall I enjoyed it. I liked that I didn't really know who the killer was. I kept blaming everyone who looked suspicious lol. I saw the preview for Friday The 13th and I'm dying to see it. It looks like a really good remake. Oh! Can you believe there's a sequel to Crank? With the same actor and everything. If you've seen the first one, you know why that would seem sort of impossible. Aside from the ridiculously unbelievable plot, I'm totally going to see it because I love action movies and Jason Statham. Bring the two together and I'm in heaven. Transporter 4 anyone? Lol.
I have done a whole lot of nothing lately. I went shopping with my friend and spent almost $200. Sales are deceiving. It makes you think you're saving and you end up spending more than you planned to. I like everything I bought though. Most of it was "professional" attire for when I start teaching and doing the field work. I feel extremely uncomfortable in such clothes. I love jeans! Where my friend teaches, she gets to wear jeans and casual tops. I hope I get a school like that. Also, I hate heels. I hate shoes period. I don't have the love for it that pop culture makes me believe I should. I would rather be barefoot. I won't lie though, I feel sexy in heels and wear them all the time but it doesn't change my feelings.
I spent a lot of time getting rid of all the ugly cc I downloaded for the sims 2. It was very tedious. I have no idea what I was thinking when I downloaded some of those hairs. I tried some hairs on multiple sims and it did not look good in any way. I'm going to be more careful about what I download. My downloads folder was getting out of hand. I downloaded the compressorizer and will compress everything once I find all the orphan meshes.
My landlord gave everyone new fridges. Those energy saving ones. I was very suspicious of this sort of behavior. He just gave everyone new windows last month. WTF? You won't raise my rent? Seriously? I have multiple letters from him saying that he won't. I have copies just in case I need to sue. I knew there was a catch though. The fridge is tiny. Before, I had to get on my tipy toes to see the top of the fridge. Now I don't even have to raise my head. I want my old fridge back dammit. I don't care how much energy it used. I was actually able to keep food in it. I exaggerate but it's significantly shorter and less spacious. Plus it opens from the wrong side. I specifically said I wanted left handed doors because otherwise it bangs into the wall. My landlord does these things to spite me, I know it!
I need to start using this properly. So I guess I should start with telling you a bit about myself. Let's see. I'm 24, live in NYC and am a graduate student on the path to becoming an elementary school teacher. Classes officially begin on the 26th. I'm ecstatic about becoming a teacher and I can't wait to start. I would prefer to teach older kids between 4th and 6th grade but I honestly don't care which grade I get, I just want to teach. At one point I considered being a middle school math teacher but scratched that idea after getting the chance to work with younger kids.
I love to read. There's almost always a book in my hand. Mostly crime thrillers and some chick lit thrown in for variety. I like other genres too but it has to really grab my attention in order for me to read it. I also enjoy traveling and I'm finally getting the opportunity to do so. Last summer I had an amazing vacation with my best friends (2) which I will probably talk about from time to time. It was three weeks long and fantastic. It deserves its own entry. We already have a few trips planned for this year and another vacation for August. I can hardly wait.
I spend a ridiculous amount of time online. It is an obsession. I used to watch a lot of TV but I've lost interest in many of the shows. I still watch Heroes, Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother on a regular basis though. Those are a must for me. My new obsession is True Beauty. If you haven't watched, you should. If I'm not online, watching tv, reading or at school/work, there's a big chance I'm with my best friends. We like to eat, drink and be merry. The drinking usually comes first lol. I don't know what else to tell you. I think I've covered the basics.
I say both. I love nothing more than a stack of pancakes with lots of syrup and a side of bacon. Throw in scrambled eggs and some toast, and I'll be happy.
Now that I've rediscovered my LJ, I think I'll start using it more.
